When conducting a site analysis, it is pertinent to do a variety of analyses that look at human behavior from different angles. How are people traveling through, to or from the space? What activities are doing? How are they interacting with each other? How do shade and temperature affect human activity? What activities are drawing people to (or not to) the space? One way to get this data is by simply observing people, especially if there is a question about whether or not to design a space. Surveys and interviews and even can also be beneficial for site analysis. Case studies can help support a design that is for a new site.
Below are a series of time-lapse videos - each from a different day and time - that capture the use of the plaza space in front of the library at Cal Poly Pomona.
